Wenger admits Gallas bid

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he has made an offer for Chelsea defender William Gallas.
The accomplished French stopper has made no secret of his desire to quit the champions and incurred the wrath of Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho for reporting late for a pre-season tour.
Gallas has long since complained about being played at left back, which he feels is not his best position as he hankers for a more central role - similar to the one he plays for his country.
Sol Campbell's summer switch to Portsmouth has left Arsenal short of defensive cover, with Wenger eager to bring Gallas across the capital to partner Kolo Toure in the middle of his defence.
Gallas's future has very much been intertwined with Ashley Cole's, as the England defender has still not sealed his move to West London in what is the most protracted transfer of the summer.
"Well I made an offer for him and that is as far as we are," he told Sky Sports News.
"It can happen, but as we said we are in no-man's land. I am very keen to resolve it, we are at the beginning of the season and you want a settled squad.
"Everybody is focused on targets and players who are half in and half out cannot focus on those things, it is not damaging but it is not helping." |
