Soriano hospitalized with concussion
Seattle reliever hit with line drive, but early tests 'encouraging'

SEATTLE -- Seattle Mariners pitcher Rafael Soriano was examined earlier Wednesday by a neurosurgeon Dr. Rich Ellenbogen at Harborview Medical Center, according to team physician Dr. Edward Khalfayan.
Soriano continues to improve after suffering a concussion when he was hit behind the right ear by a line drive Tuesday at Safeco Field.
Soriano will be given some physical therapy tests Wednesday afternoon to check his balance and ability to walk. If the results are positive, there's a chance that he could be released from the hospital as soon as Wednesday.
Soriano had a follow-up CT scan early Wednesday morning. The scan showed "no worsening of his condition," according to Khalfayan.
Later on Wednesday, neurosurgeon Dr. Rich Ellenbogen examined Soriano, who will be given some physical therapy tests Wednesday afternoon. If those tests are positive, it's possible that Soriano could be released from the hospital later in the day.
Soriano will continue to be treated for a concussion and will be re-examined by the neurosurgeon in approximately two weeks.
Since Soriano is still in Harborview's ICU unit, the Mariners request that no flowers be sent to him as he'll be unable to receive them.
